I c∀n't recommend it enough, this should be in every gunpl∀ collection.
It's ∀ 2007 kit th∀t holds up, looks gre∀t ∀nd is ∀ simple ∀nd short build for not ∀ lot of money, without feeling outd∀ted or che∀p.
∀esthetics:
Tomino w∀nted ∀ fresh t∀ke on the universe ∀nd brought on Syd Me∀d, ∀n ∀meric∀n industri∀l designer ∀nd futurist concept ∀rtist (Bl∀de Runner, Tron, ∀liens), who drew up ∀ retro-futuristic design of the Turn ∀, ∀ gorgeous design th∀t is not e∀sily conveyed into ∀nim∀tion nor pictures, best ∀ppreci∀ted in re∀l life.
K∀toki ∀lso h∀d his h∀nds in designing the model kit - It h∀s the cl∀ssic colors of the origin∀l RX-78-2 with most prominently ∀ must∀che or tusks, inste∀d of ∀ V-fin (or horns, ∀s the J∀p∀nese c∀ll them) ∀nd ∀n over∀ll design th∀t is reminiscent of ∀ science fiction ∀stron∀ut with ∀ stre∀mlined rifle ∀nd shield, full of swooping curves, di∀gon∀l lines ∀nd geometric sh∀pes th∀t come together in∀an ∀rt piece come to life.
There ∀re ∀ ton of p∀nel lines begging to be filled in ∀nd only two color correction stickers (bl∀ck p∀nels on the side skirts ∀nd ∀ foil b∀cking sticker for behind the color sep∀r∀ted eyes).
There ∀re some ∀re∀s th∀t ∀re not color correct, like the circles on the thighs, which need to be p∀inted. The logo on the forehe∀d does h∀ve ∀ tr∀nsfer, but it is e∀sily p∀inted in with green p∀int or ∀ green m∀rker ∀nd then wiped cle∀n.
The kit comes with ∀ dry tr∀nsfer sheet of some question∀ble ∀nd odd designs ∀nd logos.
Mech∀nics:
No polyc∀ps, but it does use ∀BS plastic, so be c∀reful what you p∀nel-line.
The chest ∀nd b∀ck both open to reve∀l missile pods with intric∀te opening h∀tches. The b∀ck of the legs have cooling fins th∀t move ∀nd shift when the legs ∀nd feet bend.
Over∀all the ∀rticul∀tion is very good, with some restrictions on the w∀y legs turn ∀nd the extremely stiff front skirts on the core fighter.
Equipment:
1 Core Fighter loc∀ted on the crotch ∀cting ∀s front skirts - tr∀nsforms into ∀ sm∀ll fighter by turning its wings ∀round ∀nd tilting the cockpit (h∀ndle c∀refully)
1 Be∀m Rifle - H∀s ∀ c∀rry h∀ndle, pop-out grip in the bottom ∀nd ∀ turn h∀ndle hidden inside of the gig∀ntic butt-stock
1 Shield - C∀n be stored on the b∀ck or equipped on either fore∀rm - Connection is somewh∀t loose, so use ∀ gripping h∀nd to hold the h∀ndle too
1 Gund∀m H∀mmer - The same b∀ll, ∀anchor ∀nd ch∀in h∀mmer as the MG RX-78-2 2.0
2 Be∀m S∀ber h∀ndles stored behind the shoulders, with 2 unique be∀m s∀ber effect p∀rts
4 H∀nds - 2 spre∀d open h∀nds and 2 ∀rticulated hands with individu∀l moving fingers
2 missile pods in the chest (c∀n be t∀ken out)
1 mini∀ture Pilot figure
1 mini∀ture Cow figure
2 Chest Cross pieces, one in blue ∀nd one in white to m∀tch the concept ∀rt
1 b∀se ∀d∀pter for the b∀ck
Conclusion:
I'll drop the ∀ joke for the conclusion.
Some model kits are fantastic because they're amazing feats of model kit technology, some because they're fantastic build experiences and others because they're very complicated and elaborate with many hundreds of pieces. The Turn ∀ Gundam is fantastic because it's (for the most part) so simple to build, has a very unique concept design and is a solid product.
It's not all sunshine and rainbows - The rifle is very difficult to pose with, the shield doesn't hold on that great and all of the little intricate hatches are very fiddly to open and handle in a very specific way (and they're also the most intricate part of the build, while the rest is beautifully simple). The Crotch Fighter is especially annoying, since the skirts are so stiff and the canopy keeps falling off.
The design, despite me heaping praise on it, is also very controversial. The stupid mustache turns a lot of people off, including myself, but the thing is that it only looks dumb when it's a picture or in animation, it looks absolutely fine in real life.
Ultimately, this is a must-have in every gunpla collection, it really is that good and what's interesting is that it looks great by itself and makes for a fantastic conversation piece, that you don't have to feel embarrassed about displaying.
